Using the MD5 sum is a way to check both file integrity and authenticity. If the MD5 sum is not correct, you should re-download the file.
Here are instructions to check the MD5 sum on the different operating systems:
Windows does not come with a MD5 sum utility. You must download one from another location, preferably one that you trust.
You can download HashCalc for instance.
Most Linux distributions come with a MD5 sum utility. Of course, Joli OS includes one:
