Joli OS is designed to provide the best experience for your device. Every time we can we improve drivers, applications, performances and we want to make sure that it’s done the easiest way.

Note: Updates should be automatically handled by the launcher. As soon as you have updates, you will be promptly notified. For more details, you can read this topic.

If you get an error when you update, Joli OS 1.1 (and later) comes with a software called Jolicloud Restore Utility. It restores some settings and reclaims some space. It also makes sure the system is up-to-date.

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + F10 to launch Jolicloud Restore Utility
  2. Expand 'Details'
  3. The following tasks are required:
  4. * Configure pending packages

    * Update package index files

    * Force default packages installation

    * Upgrade system

    * Auto-remove packages no longer required on the system, like unused dependencies

  5. Click 'OK' to perform the selected operations

Note: If you're not up-to-date (How do I update Joli OS?), it's possible you cannot expand 'Details' to select the tasks but you can safely click 'OK'.

If Jolicloud Restore Utility doesn't work for you, you can try again using a terminal with these instructions:

  1. Open a terminal with Alt + F1 (more details)
  2. Type: sudo apt-get update (it will ask your system password, characters are read but not displayed on the screen)
  3. Type: sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -V (answer 'y' for 'yes')
  4. Reboot

Prerequisites to diagnose your issue

If it still doesn't work, you can contact the Ubuntu community since Joli OS is based on Ubuntu. Otherwise you might consider to backup your local data and perform a clean reinstall.

Provide as much detail as you can, including:

  • The brand of your device
  • The model of your device
  • The feature affected (of course, update here)
  • The error message you get (if applicable)
  • detailed description of your issue
