Jolicloud Team October 30, 2010 • Troubleshooting / Using Joli OS and Jolicloud
April 18th, 2012 Update: We detected an issue with Flash for the users who need to reinstall it. We know the reason and we'll push a fix as soon as possible. In the meantime, here are the instructions to manually reinstall Flash:
- Download the two *.deb files attached to this topic.
- Open a terminal with Alt + F1 (more details)
- If you're on Joli OS, the files should be saved in the Downloads folder so type: cd Downloads
- Type: sudo dpkg -i flashplugin-*
- Enter your system password
- When the Flash plugin has been installed, you can close the terminal and reboot
Flash should now work again!
Some users have experienced trouble regarding Adobe Flash not working correctly. This can be caused for several reasons, but is very hard to diagnose due to the closed source nature of Flash itself.
Note: If your issue is that the playback of online video is choppy on Joli OS, please check this topic to learn how you can improve the performances.
The first solution, which works most of the time, is a simple restart of your session. Because Chromium (the open source version of Chrome) is used by the launcher, it is always running. Therefore, restarting Chromium is sometimes required if Flash has crashed for some reasons.
If, by any chance, restarting the session does not solve your issue, Flash may not be up-to-date. Flash packages are provided via your regular updates through the launcher. Check this topic for instructions on how to do so.
Finally, if updating has not solved your issue, you may want to try manually reinstalling the Flash plugin. Because Joli OS uses a package based system, simply installing Flash from the Adobe website is both difficult and unnecessary. Instead, a simple command in a terminal will completely redownload and reinstall Flash without having to visit a website.
If it still doesn't work, you can contact the Ubuntu community since Joli OS is based on Ubuntu and/or contact Adobe that publishes Flash.
Provide as much detail as you can, including:
Note: In any case, stay tuned and keep your OS up-to-date. Most of issues are simply solved by a system update.
